Reading Notes on Susanoo and Orochi: Week 2 Reading Anthology

The story of Susanoo slaying Orochi, told through this painting by Toyohara Chikanobu, is a short but simple one, with the plot containing a few key points that paints a bigger picture than the length provides. Every element is kept short as every phrase advances the plot with no downtime. The main characters are clearly outlined, with Susanoo introduced quickly as the hero before Orochi is mentioned as the antagonist, and as soon as the situation is explained Susanoo outlines a plan to slay Orochi, follows through with it, and claims his reward, which is the maiden who set upon him the challenge of killing Orochi in the first place. Susanoo is detailed as a hero, and Orochi is marked as the villain. After this point is made, the story is a traditional tale of a hero slaying the monster. While a TV show adaption would not make sense, a movie adaption would definitely contain enough time to showcase Susanoo's journey and killing of Orochi. Keanu Reeves might be a fitting match to portray Susanoo as he plays the role of an independent hero very well.
