Reading Notes: Japanese Mythology, Part B

-In the Labors of Yamato, the story starts off with a short poem, which seems to set up the plot. After finishing the introduction, the poem does in fact foreshadow the events of the first story. This is a technique I could use in my writing to help build tension in whatever story I am writing.

-The story was written in paragraph format, but when Yamato stumbled upon Benten, the Goddess of Deathless Love, the formatting changed to line by line when Yamato's vision was being described. It seemed like this was done for dramatic effect, so being able to tastefully change formatting could be a good storytelling tool.

-Add paragraph breaks between scenes of description and then dialogue to make the story flow better.
